A Charlotte developer announced plans Monday for hundreds of new apartments in Steele Creek.
Terwilliger Pappas, which already built the Solis Berewick apartments nearby, will build 230 apartments in a development called Solis Berewick Commons.
The new apartments are slated for completion in fall 2019. The development is located at Berewick Commons Parkway and Dixie River Road.
“Berewick has proven to be a tremendous market for us, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to launch a second offering there, said Tom Barker, East Region President of Terwilliger Pappas, in a statement.
Across Charlotte, apartment development remains at record levels, despite vacancy rates creeping up. There are about 27,000 apartments under construction or planned to start soon around Charlotte, according to the latest figures released this month by research firm Real Data.
Solis Berewick, the first apartments built in Steele Creek by Terwilliger Pappas, opened last year off Dixie River Road. The 275-unit apartment building includes studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom units. Rents there range from $1,193 to $2,056 a month, according to online listings. The community is nearly 60 percent leased, a spokesman said Monday.
The area around Berewick in Steele Creek continues to grow fast, with developers pouncing on the remaining vacant and wooded sites to build more housing. Nearby, Atlanta-based developer Pollack Shores is planning to build 330 new apartments on a site next to the Charlotte Premium Outlets mall. Next to that, Laurel Street Residential is building 108 apartments for people 55 and older.
Amenities at Solis Berewick will include a saltwater pool, firepit, grilling stations, a biergarten, entertainment lounge and gym with yoga room and spin studio.
Terwilliger Pappas has obtained construction financing for the new apartments from Synovus Bank. Carocon is the general contractor, Watts Leaf Architects is the architect, Design Resource Group is the engineering firm and Cline Design is the interior designer.
